The groundbreaking for the new Black Canyon City Fire Department Station made news back in the spring. Today the station is well on the way to completion.
Wade Gardner, Superintendent for Niche Contractors of Gilbert said, "I told Chief Tom Birch that they will be eating their Thanksgiving dinner in the new station."
The majority of the building is complete. Everything is framed in and waiting for the drywall and insulation. The building will be 9,768 sq. ft. with an apparatus bay area of 6,000 sq. ft.
"When you consider that our total station area now for everything is only 3,800 sq. ft. you begin to realize what a difference this new fire station will mean to the Department," BCFD Chief Tom Birch said.
Gardner said this is the second fire station the company has built.
"We built the fire station in Cornville and several police department buildings including Winslow and the City of Mesa."
The crew usually works six days a week and with a move-in date near Thanksgiving this gives them about nine more weeks to complete the project.
"This new station has been one of my goals for 13 years," Birch said. "It is finally all coming together and everyone will benefit."
