Black Canyon City, Cordes Lakes plan weekend fests

By Heidi Dahms Foster
Editorial Manager

Cordes Lakes and Black Canyon City both have some fun on tap for the weekend.

On Friday, Cañon Elementary School will put on a Fall Festival at the old school campus, 18800 Old School Loop Rd. (Behind Beni's Pizza) off Old Black Canyon Hwy.

Local businesses will have booths at the event, and will donate prizes and services. A cake walk and barbecue will also take place. Black Canyon Dentristy will donate an exam, xrays and teeth cleaning; Rock Springs Café will donate several pies and gift certificates; Head to Toe Salon will give $5 haircuts with the proceeds going to the Parent Teacher Organization.

The event also will feature a 50/50 raffle drawing for prizes and cash. Entrance fee is a non-perishable food item for the food bank. To have a booth at the event, or for more information, call Paula Albin at Cañon Elementary 623-374-5588, ext. 101.

On Saturday, the annual Cordes Lakes Daze will take place in the community with a parade and Chili Cookoff. The parade will take place at 12:15 from the Community Center down Black Mountain to Stagecoach, to Cordes Lakes Drive, and south back to the Center.

The community association is looking for more folks to participate in the annual Chili Cookoff. The entry fee is $10, with cash prizes for 1st and 2nd place. The public can enjoy five samples for $5 with samplers casting their vote for the best chili.

Chili contestants can bring the chili pre-made, but must provide their own method of keeping it warm.

For more information on Cordes Lakes Daze, call Pat Williamson at 632-8965.

In addition to this weekend's events, Black Canyon City residents are hard at work on their second annual Community Fun Fest, which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 7.

This big event features the annual Veteran's Day Parade, pancake breakfast, a car show, arts and crafts, music, and a big fireworks show at dark. For information on the parade and other events, call the Black Canyon City Chamber of Commerce, 623-374-9797.
