On Saturday, Oct. 24, many of the old regulars and a few new faces appeared to "Make A Difference" in the ball field at Cordes Lakes.
To be used for Little League, the field must meet certain specifications. The old posts and falling backstop didn't come anywhere near their requirements. So the Make A Difference crew, including Mayer firefighters Ryan Montgomery and Daniel Barringer, Linda & Ron Giguere, Alice Spry, Pat and Jack Williamson, Phyllis Willman, June and Steve Wiley, Jack Bennetto, Dennyse Summit, Justin Coulter, Kathy Pangle from Mayer Schools, Zach Piccinini, visitor Caroline Olson, Michelle Bressler, and leader Robbe Bressler, all dug in (literally) to level the field.
The field once was all brush and weeds. Clearing has been on-going and made things much easier for the workers. The volunteers removed old posts and fencing, and loaded a tractor with many of the larger rocks. The workers leveled the field.
Linda Giguere worked on the harder weeds, along with Phyllis Willman, Justin Coulter, Zach and Gabe Piccinini.
Les Irwin and Harold Martin came to do the official survey of the property and provide the blueprints for reinstalling the backstop
The volunteers assembled donated picnic tables with benches, and three team benches. Once their exact location has been determined, they will be put in place and cemented in.
Around 11 a.m. a truck, trailer and cooking crew arrived from Community Bible Church. They provided hot dogs with the trimmings, chips, and drinks for all of the workers.
