The Black Canyon City Community Association will hold the election for board member president and treasurer at the next scheduled meeting on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.
The positions are two-year terms, and current president, Bob Cothern, and treasurer, Carole Loyer, are running unopposed. Write-in candidates will be accepted at the December meeting prior to the voting process.
Other business at the November meeting included:
A report from Sgt. Luis Huante of Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.
Huante presented the 2nd and 3rd quarter sheriff's report for Black Canyon City. YCSO now has 24/7 coverage for BCC.
The report also indicated a dramatic increase in traffic stops for the 3rd quarter due to the mandatory checks at Sunset Point during the southbound paving process. A total of 720 traffic stops during the 3rd quarter included 461 at the Sunset Point checkpoint area.
While most crime statistics remained about the same level as the 2nd quarter there was a 400 percent increase in vehicle theft and weapons offenses in BCC. Vehicle theft increased from 1 to 5 during the 3rd quarter.
Additionally, the response time for YCSO has increased from the 15 minutes in the 2nd quarter to 19 minutes in the July - Sept. 3rd quarter.
Huarte suggested this may have been due to delays in the traffic from Sunset Point to BCC during the paving process.
Cothern presented information on the ongoing progress of Heritage Park. Drawings and reports were completed by the end of November, permits should be finalized with Yavapai County by the end of December, and excavation and grading should begin in February 2010.
Cothern said, "There has been a slight speedbump in the moving of the Old Cañon Museum to the park. Some of Heritage Park is in the County flood plain and the area may have to be filled and raised before a slab can be set for the building. We are currently working with the County on this."
Citizen of the Year forms are available at the BCC visitor center and need to be turned in by the end of the year. The Citizen of the Year will be awarded at the Feb. 2010 BCCCA meeting.
