12/16/2009 6:09:00 AM Cordes Lakes Cora shows up to help wrap gifts
By Pat Williamson Big Bug News
Cordes Lakes Cora was busy again on Sunday, Dec. 13. Students from Orme School and the Mayer High School National Honor Society were at the Cordes Lakes Community Center wrapping the many gifts donated via the Cora's Angel Tree. Each year the B. Alan Hair Salon sponsors the tree and coordinates the tree tags, wrapping and distribution of the gifts. This is their third annual Angel Tree, growing from 59 in the first year, 79 for the second, and 85 names this year.
Clients and residents from Mayer to Cordes Lakes chose children from the Angel Tree more quickly than ever this year.
Thanks to the many individuals and organizations that brought in presents that weren't assigned to a specific child. This is great because if a child missed getting their name on the angel tree, these extra gifts will fill the gap. Also thanks to the extra guidance provided by Iliana Olivares of Orme School and Ellen Rosfeld of Mayer High School's Honor Society.
Bruce Farkas and Anthony Carmosino provided pizza and sodas for about 30 students wrapping presents. They made short work of wrapping about 250 presents, and short work of eating the pizza!
The many bags of gifts were numbered with the child's tree tag number and will be taken to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. From here, the bags are given to the parents with their food box to place under the tree.
Want to know more about Cora? She will be at the Cordes Lakes Cookies with Santa and will appear after the parade returns to the Center. Do you think you know who she is? Come and see if you are right!
