Wednesday, Nov. 28

Mayer Elementary School will host a Laser Show at 10 a.m. in the gym. This is a special event, and all are welcome.



Thursday, Nov. 29

Mayer Elders Club General Meeting at 12:30 p.m. at the MAAC aka Mayer Senior Center. Everyone welcome. Website: MayerEldersClubAZ.org.



Saturday, Dec. 1

A craft sale will take place on Dec. 1 at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Come early for the best selection of one-of-a-kind items.



Monday, Dec. 3

The Lonesome Valley Quilt Guild will hold its annual potluck Christmas party and food collection for the Yavapai Food Bank at 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 3, at the Mountain Valley Church of God, 8123 E. Manley Drive (Hwy 69; 2 miles N. on Robert Road), Prescott Valley.

Bring a dish to share (to serve 6) and non-perishable canned foods for the YFB. Info: Mary, 928/632-8760.



Mayer

The Arizona Highway 69 Chamber Tree Lighting will take place at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Chamber Office, 12791 E. Central in Mayer. Raffle tickets will be sold to win the tree ($1 each or 6 for $5).



Mayer Elders Club Fundraiser Bake Sale at Mayer Bank of the West (weather permitting), 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until the goodies run out on Dec. 7. The club will be taking orders for their Christmas Bake-a-Thon. Orders placed for baked goods will be ready for pickup on Dec. 24. For information call Brenda, 928-632-4901.

Hearty Soup Buffet and Christmas Cookies, noon to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9, at the MAAC (aka Mayer Senior Center) 10051 Miami St., Mayer (behind the fire station). Exercise Class for men and women meets Monday and Wednesday at 8 a.m., Tuesday and Thursday - Walk Group at 7:30 a.m. at Mayer Community Church. Call Joyce Nelson at 928-632-9352.

Mayer Area Meals on Wheels has a cribbage class that plays on Wednesday afternoons starting at 12:45.  It's okay if you haven't played in a while as the group will help teach or refresh your memory.  A beading class takes place every Wednesday afternoon. All instruction is free.  Kits are available at a minimal charge.  A tole painting class takes place each Thursday. Instruction is free and costs are very minimal. Painting starts at 10 a.m. and usually lasts until 2:30 p.m. 

Mayer Elders Club raffles include a Christmas Cash Raffle with a percentage of tickets sales to the winners, and a Harvest Hosts Raffle, which includes two 1-year memberships in Harvest Hosts Membership Camping Club entitling members with self-contained RVs to park overnight at a vast network of farms, wineries and agri-businesses. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6/$5. Drawings will take place at the Elders Club Christmas Soup and Cookies Buffet. Cordes Lakes

An election for Cordes Lakes Community Association Board members will take place on Dec. 13. Voting is from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Community Center. There is no charge to join the Community Association but you must be a registered member to vote.

Cookies with Santa and the Electric Lights Parade are coming Dec. 15. Mark your calendars and start thinking of how to decorate your vehicle with lights.

There are three food programs in Cordes Lakes. The 60 plus program (age and income restricted) it is on the second Wednesday. Commodities are on the third Wednesday, with produce on the 4th Thursday. Please bring your plastic bags or boxes to carry your produce. Please do not bring your dogs or other pets as they are not allowed in the food area. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, produce will be at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Cordes Lakes Community Center and commodities will be at 7 a.m. on Nov. 21. Exercise Class starts 8 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Classes are free. Chris Shackelford is leading the exercise classes. TOPS starts at 9:15 a.m. for weigh-in and 9:30 for meeting on Fridays, following the exercise class.

 Ballroom and line dancing lessons will take place at 7 p.m. every Monday night at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. These are free classes and open to all ages. Don't worry about a partner. First dance will be the two-step.



Other Areas

Learn how to pan gold at Old Cordes Store during Cordes Gold Rush Day starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. Members of the Gold Prospectors of Phoenix will set up portable troughs and teach people how to find real gold. The Prospectors also will bring other gold panning equipment for display and information. Panning and program is free. Spring Valley Property Owners Association General Meeting, 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11. Norm Smith and his barbershop quartet, The High Mountain Chordsmen, will present an entertaining Christmas program. Come early at 6 p.m. and enjoy the potluck supper. Everyone welcome.



Yavapai County Blue Star Mothers is having their monthly meetings, 6 p.m. on the 1st Wednesday of each month at the Quailwood Community Clubhouse, 12725 E Bradshaw Mountain Road, Dewey. Blue Star Mothers is a group, supporting our troops, helping veterans and the community to Honor and Remember the Gold Star community.







The MATFORCE Lunch 'n Learn on Nov. 29 will feature a panel presentation on the prescription drug abuse epidemic. The presentation will include important information as well as provide solutions for families or those working in the field. Speakers include Detective James Tobin of the Prescott Valley Police Department, Commander Bill Suttle of Partners Against Narcotic Trafficking, along with a first-hand account of one person's battle against prescription drug addiction.

In Yavapai County, youth are abusing prescription medication at rates that are above state and national averages. In 10th and 12th grades, 28 percent of students report that they have abused prescription drugs (AZ Youth Survey, 2010).

The Lunch 'n Learn will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Board of Supervisors Room, Yavapai County Administration Building, 1015 S. Fair St., Prescott and teleconferenced to the Yavapai County Cottonwood Annex, 10 South 6th St., Cottonwood. It is free and open to the public. Brown-bag lunches are welcome.

First Southern Baptist Church on Pinto in Cordes Lakes hosts a youth group, grades 7 to 12, every Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Youth Director Jen Fellars provides games, fun, worship and purpose. Call 623-556-6018 for information.
