This Week

Friday, Feb. 1

Storytime at the Cordes Lakes Public Library will be once per month at 3 p.m. on the first Friday of the month. Miss Tina will read a story geared to preschoolers. Don't miss storytime on Feb. 1.



Monday, Feb. 4

The Lonesome Valley Quilt Guild will host Kathy Lohr from Quilt 'n Sew Connection in Prescott Valley.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Mountain Valley Church of God, 8123 E. Manley (2 miles north on Robert Road), Prescott Valley. The meeting is free and there will be free refreshments. For info: Mary, 928-632-8760.



Tuesday, Feb. 5

The Upper Agua Fria Watershed Partnership will meet at 10 a.m., Feb. 5, at Arcosanti in the Red Room. All are welcome. Tice Supplee of Audubon Arizona will speak about the "Western Rivers Initiative" which includes the Upper Agua Fria Watershed, and at 11 a.m., Steve Mauk, director of Yavapai County Development Services will speak about county hopes for the development of water and sewer districts to facilitate smart growth at Cordes Junction.



Wednesday, Feb. 6

High Desert Heritage Museum is having an entertainment meeting at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Guest speaker is Ernie Bensch, who will tell us about how things used to be in the Mayer area. Everyone is invited.



Mayer

Mayer High School is accepting nominations for inductees to the Athletic Hall of Fame - Class of 2013. Nominees can be supportive members of the community, coaches, individual players, or teams. Nomination forms are available at Mayer High School, or people may call the athletic department at 642-1225 to nominate a candidate. Deadline is Feb. 21.



Exercise Class for men and women meets Monday and Wednesday at 8 a.m., at Mayer Community Church. Call Joyce Nelson at 928-632-9352.

Mayer Fire has open board meetings at 6 p.m. on the third Monday of the month at the main location on Highway 69 across from Bensch Ranch.

Mayer Area Meals on Wheels has a cribbage class that plays on Wednesday afternoons starting at 12:45.  It's okay if you haven't played in a while as the group will help teach or refresh your memory.  A beading class takes place every Wednesday afternoon. All instruction is free. Kits are available at a minimal charge.  A tole painting class takes place each Thursday. Instruction is free and costs are very minimal. Painting starts at 10 a.m. and usually lasts until 2:30 p.m.

Cordes Lakes

The Cordes Lakes Community Association will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 14. County Supervisor Tom Thurman is the guest speaker. Come and find out what is happening in your area.



Cordes Lakes Game Night will be Feb. 16. There will be Black Jack, Texas Hold'em, darts, and many other games. Collect your winning chips to buy prizes. Details are still in the planning stage.



Get ready to go back to that old High School Sock Hop on March 16 at the Community Center.



The Easter Egg Hunt is coming up and wrapped candy to put in the eggs, along with appropriate Easter prizes (baskets, stuffed animals, etc.) are needed. Please contact Judy Slankard at 928-642-0916 if you can donate to this event.



Ladies Luncheon is coming back! Ladies, mark your calendar for April 11 for the Cruise of a Lifetime.



Get your raffle ticket for the Mother's Day Special. This is a day at the Borgota Salon-Spa at Prescott Resort. The winner will get a one-hour massage, one-hour facial, haircut and style, manicure, pedicure, and up to $25 for lunch. Tickets are $5 each with the drawing on May 9 at the Cordes Lakes Community Center General Meeting. Contact any CLCA board member or Norm Kozak at 928-713-8849 to get raffle tickets.



The Cordes Lakes Event Planners meet at 9 a.m. Tuesdays at the Community Center. Be in on the planning stages for activities in your community. Help is needed for the Easter Egg Hunt.



There are three food programs in Cordes Lakes. The 60-plus program (age and income restricted) is on the second Wednesday. Commodities are on the third Wednesday, with produce on the fourth Thursday. Please bring your plastic bags or boxes to carry your produce. Please do not bring your dogs or other pets as they are not allowed in the food area. The American Legion Post 122 meets at 2 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. The post is in need of new members. If you are a veteran, drop in at a meeting and chat with other members.

Exercise Class starts 8 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Classes are free. Chris Shackelford is leading the exercise classes. TOPS starts at 9:15 a.m. for weigh-in and 9:30 for meeting on Fridays, following the exercise class.

 Ballroom and line dancing lessons will take place at 7 p.m. every Monday night at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. These are free classes and open to all ages. Don't worry about a partner. First dance will be the two-step.



Love Ministry is at 14720 S. Stagecoach Trail in the mobile at the Extra Self Storage. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m the third and fourth weekends of the month. Contact Carol Peck at 928-899-5050.

A weekly Jam Session day takes place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Bill Teahon's house, 20273 East Quail Run. Bring your instrument and join the fun. For information, call Bill at 772-6044.

Big Bug Gem & Mineral Club meets the third Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Community Center. Call Art Frame at 928-713-5492 for more information.

Al-Anon open meetings are Mondays at 9:30 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Call Len, 928-632-9064.
