Mayer's record dipped to 4-18 overall after a 43-point loss at Division 4 No. 1-ranked Scottsdale Prep in Section 4 action Tuesday at home.

The Wildcats had won two of their last three games before they met Scottsdale Prep.

On Monday, Chandler Gutierrez scored a season-high 28 points in leading Mayer to a convincing 66-43 victory over Rancho Solano at home.

"Overall it was probably the most complete game we've played all year," Wildcats coach Clint Cross said.

Gutierrez accounted for 13 of Mayer's 15 points in the opening quarter and helped his team take a 25-21 lead into halftime behind his 19 total points in the half.

MHS later outscored Rancho Solano, 22-11, to grab a 47-32 lead going into the fourth. Mayer would cruise from there.

Gutierrez, the star of the contest, also went 5-of-6 from the free-throw line, pulled down eight rebounds and swiped three steals.

Nick McElroy followed with nine points and five boards. Tate Caldwell (7 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds) and Dillon Darges (6 points, 4 boards) aided in the effort.

It doesn't get any easier for Mayer when it visits D-4 No. 3 Glendale Joy Christian for another section tilt at 7 p.m. Thursday.
