March 1 will be an early St. Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage meal at Cordes Kitchen.

The Orme School's 46th Annual Fine Arts Festival will run through Feb. 20. This year's theme is Footprints Through Time. The school will honor FAF Founder Dot Lewis during Grandparents Day, Saturday, Feb. 22.

Arcosanti Resident Art Show is ongoing through April 30.  The annual celebration of the diverse artistic talents of Arcosanti's residents, workshoppers and alumni features sculptors, painters, photographers, ceramicists, jewelry-makers, digital artists, fiber artists and more. They display their creations in the cafe, gallery and elsewhere onsite. Sunday, Feb. 23, is the Yankee Doodle Lunch at MAMOW, and the center will be decked out in red, white, and blue to celebrate President's Day. Menu is barbecue chicken, rice, veggies, desserts and drinks for a $7 donation. Come on out for food, fun, raffles, and prizes.

The Mayer Fire Department has entered a team in the upcoming Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters "Bowl for Kids' Sake."  The 5-member team is collecting pledges to support the Big Brothers Big Sisters program here in Yavapai County. Need Wheels?  The free van trip from the MAAC is Feb. 25, to Basha's in Camp Verde.  

NACOG Medicare Advocate Micki Shor will be at the Mayer Activity Center at 1 p.m., Feb. 26, for anyone who sets up an appointment. Call 928-632-7511 to register.

Virtual Cake Walk and lunch on Sunday, March 9, at Mayer Activity Center, 10051 Miami, Mayer. The lunch menu is Shepherd's Pie, salad with dressing, rolls, cakes and drinks for a suggested donation of $7 per adult and $3 per child. There will be homemade cakes to bid on, raffles and good fun.

Saturday, March 22, is the sixth annual "March For Meals" Mayer Area Meals on Wheels Walk-A-Thon. Pick up your registration form and pledge sheets. Forms are available at Meals on Wheels, 10051 Miami St., Mayer, or call 928-632-7511 to have your form faxed or mailed to you. All pledges go to Mayer Area Meals on Wheels.

The MAYER DAZE Committee is looking for volunteers to help plan Mayer Daze and make it happen on May 10. For more information call 928-632-9236.


A fundraiser for Cathy Cordes, who suffers from leukemia and recently had stem cell therapy, takes place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, at Cleator, on the road to Crown King. Boots n Spurs Saddle Club is sponsoring the event and proceeds will help with Cordes' medical expenses. The event includes an auction, bake sale, karaoke, live music and horseshoe pitching. Auction items are welcome and baked goods can be dropped off in Cleator from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. any day before the event. A local band will be playing on the back porch and an emcee will be running karaoke on the front porch. Food will be available for a donation.

Sign-in for Horseshoe Pitch is at noon, with competition at 1 p.m. It's a 50/50 blind draw doubles. Entry fee is $10. For more information, call 928-632-8534.


The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors, working with the Public Works Department, announces a community cleanup at the Black Canyon City Transfer Station, 21000 E. Landfill Road. The cleanup will be open to Yavapai County residents for no charge from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Feb. 26, 28, March 1 and March 5, 7, 8, Accepted items: household appliances, bagged trash, auto batteries, tires, furniture, and yard trimmings. Items that will not be accepted: loose trash, liquids, hazardous materials, cars, Ni Cad batteries, dead animals and no commercial dumping.
