The Mayer Fire Department has entered a team in the upcoming Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters "Bowl for Kids' Sake." The five-member team is collecting pledges to support the Big Brothers Big Sisters program here in Yavapai County. A fundraiser for Cathy Cordes, who suffers from leukemia and recently had stem cell therapy, takes place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, at Cleator, on the road to Crown King. Boots n Spurs Saddle Club is sponsoring the event and proceeds will help with Cordes' medical expenses. The event includes an auction, bake sale, karaoke, live music and horseshoe pitching. Auction items are welcome and baked goods can be dropped off in Cleator from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. any day before the event. A local band will be playing on the back porch and an emcee will be running karaoke on the front porch. Food will be available for a donation.

The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors, working with the Public Works Department, announces a community cleanup at the Black Canyon City Transfer Station, 21000 E. Landfill Road. The cleanup will be open to Yavapai County residents for no charge from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Feb. 26, 28, March 1 and March 5, 7, 8, Accepted items: household appliances, bagged trash, auto batteries, tires, furniture, and yard trimmings. Items that will not be accepted: loose trash, liquids, hazardous materials, cars, Ni Cad batteries, dead animals and no commercial dumping.
