Part of historical old Mayer Hospital used as lower floor of Gina's house
Gina's bungalow now AFTER
Gina has lived in Mayer for 16 years. Long enough to have had two different antique shops and renovate an out building at the old Mayer Hospital into a home for herself.
The foundation and half wall was all that remained of the hut where the next door hospital would isolate certain patients. Gina and her son saved a bit of Mayer history by incorporating the foundation and stone walls into her two story bungalow.
Gina is also good with a paintbrush and on more than walls. She paints pictures on order including images of the old historic 1902 Joe Mayer building that houses Big Bug Station onto T-shirts to help raise money for both the Elders Club and Meals on Wheels.
Red headed Gina is a colorful character herself. In her life she has worn many hats on that head: rancher, GOGO Bar owner, singer, and deputy sheriff. Just to name a couple more … she made costumes for Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. She also sewed those handkerchiefs that Elvis, that’s right The King, used to wipe his brow with during his performances and threw out to the audience!
You can find Gina some mornings at Big Bug Station having a cup of coffee and throwing out some special stories of her colorful life.
