Letter: Why did O'Breslys wait to claim well?

Editor:

In response to the Big Bug News article of Jan. 23, concerning ownership of the Lucas Well by reporter Sue Tone, I would like to say as a past employee of the Mayer Domestic Water Improvement District (Mayer DWID) from June 1993 to June 2002, I never asked the O'Breslys for permission to use the Lucas Well.

The Mayer DWID was using the well before I went to work for them and we used the Lucas Well all the time that I was with the district. It was still being used the day I left in June of 2002.

I did see documentation in the Mayer DWID files that transferred ownership of the Lucas Well from the Mayer Water Co. to the Mayer DWID. That is why the Arizona Department of Water Resources shows the Mayer DWID as the owners. Just because someone says that they own the well because they own the land around it is crazy. The O'Breslys have yet to come up with any document that says they own the well.

Why have the O'Breslys waited 15 years to claim the well now? I don't feel that the Mayer DWID should spend valuable time and money for attorneys at this time.
