Spay/Neuter Clinic in BCC

Cordes Lakes area

Cruise deposits coming due

Deposit on the Cordes Cruiser's November Baja Cruise are now due. You can buy a raffle ticket for this cruise from any CLCA member. Contact Pat Williamson 632-8965 for the cruise information and Bill Slankard 632-9473 for raffle tickets.

American Legion Quad Run Saturday

The American Legion Quad Run is April 10, with profits going to its building fund.

The cost is $10 per quad and $5 for each additional rider. There will be Sloppy Joes OR Hot Dog with chips, beverage, and dessert for $3. Pre-register at Henry Cordes Park.

Due to the response, we won't have room at Diane's Hair Hut and will move to the park.April 10 registration starts at 8 a.m. Maps will be available then. If you don't have your ticket for the hand-carved 18" wooden bear raffle, they are $5 each or 3 for $10. To purchase a ticket, contact a local Legion member.

Ladies Luncheon April 15

The Cordes Lakes Ladies Luncheon will be April 15 with the theme of "Through the Looking Glass." Tickets are now on sale for $10 per person.

Contact your Tuesday Club member or Annie Wales at 632-4416. If you have a costume relating to the Alice theme, please wear it!

Mystery Theater May 15

May 15 is the date for the Mystery Theater. This is not just an "eat and run." Plan to sit back, relax, enjoy the entertainment and be first to solve the crime for a prize. Pre-sale starts April 7.

Tickets are $10 per person and includes dinner, dessert, beverage, and entertainment. Seats are limited, so get your tickets early. Contact Pat Williamson 632-8965 or Phyllis Willman 632-8010.

Legion Casino trip is May 26

May 26 is the date for the American Legion Bus to Mazatlan Casino in Payson. For $10 you get transportation to and from the casino (starting at the Community Center), and $10 in gambling chips on arrival at the casino.

Hiking Club meets first Monday

Cordes Lakes Hiking Club meets the first Monday of the month at the Cordes Lakes Community Center, 16357 S. Cordes Lakes Drive, at 8 a.m. Due to the warmer weather, the hikes will start earlier.

Contact Bill Slankard 632-9473 for the location of the next hike. Carpools will drive from the Center to the hike location. No registration necessary, just meet in the parking lot.

Cordes Lakes Library hours

The Cordes Lakes Library now will be open Tuesday through Friday from 1-6 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The library is closed on Sunday and Monday.

Knitting program to benefit troops

The Cordes Lakes Library offers a program to benefit troops in Afghanistan. KASTOFF stands for "knit a scarf to our fighting forces" or it can be CASTOFF for Crochet.

The scarves must be all wool and a certain size. There is no "meeting" so you can knit or crochet at your leisure. Just make it per directions and take it to the library. Lynn Hummel at the library has details. Call her at 928-632-5492 during library hours.

3rd Thursday Fun

Fun Night in Cordes Lakes is every third Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Entry is free, but please bring a finger-food snack to share. There will be coffee and iced tea available. Please put a few coins in the kitty to pay for the cups, ice, and coffee. Get your card groups together and enjoy the company of your neighbors at the center.

Legion Post #122 meets third Tuesdays

American Legion Post #122 meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. in the Cordes Lakes Community Center.

Reaching Out in Love Ministry

Reaching Out in Love Ministry offers a helping hand to those in need of clothing, shoes, and other items, at no charge. If you would like to help, stop in with your donation of cash or gently used clothing. Love Ministry is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is located at 14720 S. Stagecoach Trail in Cordes Junction in the mobile at the Extra Self Storage.

Cordes Lakes Food programs

There are four food programs in Cordes Lakes. Value Club is the second Wednesday and is payable at the Library the previous Friday. The 60-plus pro- gram (age and income restricted) is also on the second Wednesday. Commodities are on the third Wednesday, with produce on the fourth Thursday.

Tuesday Club open to new members

The Tuesday Club hosts many events in the community to raise money to maintain the community center and pay for other worthy projects as the baseball field, lake improvements and repair, etc.

This is an OPEN group, there are no dues or formal membership.

We would like your ideas for new events and projects.

Watch for the Tuesday Club's February dinner information, coming soon. Please join us on Tuesday mornings at 9 at the Cordes Lakes Community Center.

Cordes Exercise class

The Exercise Class is on Wednesday and Friday at 8 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Commu- nity Center. Call Kimila, 713-3782, for informa- tion.

TOPS Club Cordes

TOPS will follow the exercise class on Fri- days at 9:15 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Now you can make twice the effort on the same day to achieve your goals.

Drop off brush on third Saturdays

The Brush Yard, located on Fremont (west of Brahma and east of Cordes Lakes Drive) will be open on the third Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Remember, this is NOT a trash dump, just burnable brush. This is IN Cordes Lakes for Cordes Lakes residents only, and you will be asked for your name and address, as a count of users is being kept.

If you are unable to make it on the available day and hours, contact Ron Giguere at 632-7552 to make an appointment to drop off your brush.

Mayer area

Mayer Food Bank offers help

Mayer Food Bank is located at 10051 South 2nd Street in Mayer. It is open the last Saturday of the month from 8-11 a.m. Everyone in need is welcome. Springs Church sponsors the food bank. For information contact Art or Sharon Frame 713-5492.

Mayer Daze Parade & Festival

Save the date for the 48th Annual Mayer Daze celebration on May 8. The festival and parade will take place on Wicks St. in Mayer. Parade begins at 10 a.m.

Enjoy a pit BBQ at 11 a.m., crafts booths, carnival games, climbing wall, pit barbecue, craft booths, carnival games, car show, climbing wall and an 8 p.m. dance featuring "Miles of Country."

Join us for story time! All preschool and kindergarten aged children are welcome! (Mom and Dad too!) Come to the library at 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays, April 15 and May 13.

Mayer Elders Club events and news

The Hospice of the Pines Loss Support Group meets at the Mayer Elder's Center each Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Come and enjoy lunch at 11:30 a.m. provided by Meals on Wheels. Please join us if you've lost someone either recently or years ago, or if you are a full time caregiver.

Every Thursday afternoon, a beading class takes place at the Mayer Senior Center. Classes are taught by Myrna Bouchey and cost $3, which includes supplies. Beading is done from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and we enjoy lunch at the Center.

Mayer Library Used Book Sale

Boots 'n Spurs Saddle Club events

Boots n' Spurs Saddle Club meets the 3rd Thursday of the month, 6 p.m. at the Charcoal Pit Resturant, Mayer.

Club is open to all ages. Membership $7 individual, $15 family.

Field day & Western Trail Class Competition on Saturday, April 10, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. The club will award prizes for the best horsemanship performances. Other Areas

Cleator Waterline Fundraiser

Cleator residents will conduct a fundraiser on Saturday, April 24, from noon to 6 p.m. Activities will include live music (jam) with P.A. provided, food, hayrides, raffles(gold), and bake sale. Win a guided tour of an Arizona cattle ranch, see where the cows graze! Proceeds benefit the Cleator waterline repairs and maintenance. Any pipe, fittings, ect. are appreciated. County offices change hours

Yavapai County Development Services, Public Fiduciary and Flood Control will have new hours beginning March 8.

The offices at 500 S. Marina St. will be open from Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The county Board of Supervisors approved the change on a 90-day trial basis as a possible cost-saving measure that would save on utilities and other expenses. The Public Works and Facilities departments are already using a four-day schedule.

County offers free slash dropoff

The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors announces the continuation of a three-month free slash drop-off program at all county transfer stations beginning March 1 and continuing until June 1.

County transfer stations are located in Bagdad, Black Canyon City, Camp Verde, Congress, Mayer, Seligman and Skull Valley.

Free slash drop off will be during normal operating hours.

This free slash drop-off program will help residents in developing necessary defensible space around their homes and other structures that could fuel fires.

Keeping fuels down is absolutely necessary to help avoid uncontrolled fires that can and do become extremely damaging.

Photo contest to benefit wildlife preserves

Do you believe that Daisy Mountain's uniqueness and beauty can be captured in photos and/or art? North Country Conservancy (NCC), leader of efforts to preserve the natural landscape and wildlife habitat in the Daisy Mountain/Anthem/New River/Desert Hills/North Phoenix region, is conducting its third annual contest to give you a chance to do just that.

The North Country Conservancy 2010 Photo - Art Contest has two components.

1. Photo Contest - Open to all photographers regardless of age, whether professional, amateur, artist, student, or hobbyist.

2. Art Contest - Open to all participants 18 years of age or younger. Parent/legal guardian consent is required.

The contest began on March 1. Photos and art must be created after March 1 and provided to NCC on or before Oct. 1. Each participant may have up to three entries. NCC will award the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Photo winners and 1st Place to the under-18 Art winner with various prizes at their award celebration event in October.

For the residents of Anthem, Desert Hills, north Phoenix, and New River, Arizona, Daisy Mountain is the treasure right in their own backyard. This is your chance to capture the beauty and uniqueness of this landscape while also helping to preserve it for current and future generations to enjoy. The creative focus is to depict the sereneness of Daisy Mountain or the plants, topography, geology, and/or animals that are native to the community. AARP Tax-Aide for 2010

On Feb. 1, AARP Tax- Aide began offering free tax counseling and tax preparation assistance for people of middle and low incomes, with special attention given to people over 60. The program will operate through April 15, the deadline for filing 2009 tax returns.

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers are trained in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service and offer help with personal income tax returns at various locations throughout Arizona.
