Annual BBQ Challenge

Rock Springs Cafe will present its Annual Hogs in Heat BBQ Challenge on Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2. BBQ Categories include chicken, pork ribs, pork, and beef brisket. This "official" Arizona Triple Crown of BBQ event will feature more than $5,000 in cash, prizes and trophies. AZ Barbecue must receive a completed entry form and full entry fee by April 24. Get a raffle ticket for a Baja cruise

Raffle tickets for the Cordes Cruiser's November Baja Cruise are on sale. You can buy a raffle ticket for this cruise from any CLCA member. Tickets are $5 and provide an inside cabin for two. Mystery Theater May 15

May 15 is the date for the Mystery Theater. This is not just an "eat and run." Plan to sit back, relax, enjoy the entertainment and be first to solve the crime for a prize. Pre-sale starts April 7.

Legion Casino trip is May 26

May 26 is the date for the American Legion Bus to Mazatlan Casino in Payson. For $10 you get transportation to and from the casino (starting at the Community Center), and $10 in gambling chips on arrival at the casino.

Hiking Club meets first Monday

Cordes Lakes Hiking Club meets the first Monday of the month at the Cordes Lakes Community Center, 16357 S. Cordes Lakes Drive, at 8 a.m. Due to the warmer weather, the hikes will start earlier.

Contact Bill Slankard 632-9473 for the location of the next hike. Carpools will drive from the Center to the hike location. No registration necessary, just meet in the parking lot.



Cordes Lakes Library hours

The Cordes Lakes Library now will be open Tuesday through Friday from 1-6 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The library is closed on Sunday and Monday.

Programs to benefit troops

The Cordes Lakes Library has ended the KASTOFF program. Thanks to everyone who supported this effort.

3rd Thursday Fun

Fun Night in Cordes Lakes is every third Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Entry is free, but please bring a finger-food snack to share. There will be coffee and iced tea available. Please put a few coins in the kitty to pay for the cups, ice, and coffee.

Get your card groups together and enjoy the company of your neighbors at the center.

Legion Post #122 meets third Tuesdays

American Legion Post #122 meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. in the Cordes Lakes Community Center.

Reaching Out in Love Ministry

Reaching Out in Love Ministry offers a help- ing hand to those in need of clothing, shoes, and other items, at no charge. If you would like to help, stop in with your donation of cash or gently used clothing. The ministry will be open April 23 and 24 this month, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is located at 14720 S. Stagecoach Trail in Cordes Junction in the mobile at the Extra Self Storage.

Cordes Lakes Food programs

There are four food programs in Cordes Lakes. Value Club is the second Wednesday and is payable at the Library the previous Friday. The 60-plus program (age and income restricted) is also on the second Wednesday. Commodities are on the third Wednesday, with produce on the fourth Thursday.

Tuesday Club open to new members

The Tuesday Club hosts many events in the community to raise money to maintain the community center and pay for other worthy projects as the baseball field, lake improvements and repair, etc.

This is an OPEN group, there are no dues or formal membership.

We would like your ideas for new events and projects.

Watch for the Tuesday Club's February dinner information, coming soon. Please join us on Tuesday mornings at 9 at the Cordes Lakes Community Center.

Cordes Exercise class

The Exercise Class is on Wednesday and Friday at 8 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Call Kimila, 713-3782, for information.

TOPS Club Cordes

TOPS will follow the exercise class on Fri- days at 9:15 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Now you can make twice the effort on the same day to achieve your goals.

Drop off brush on third Saturdays

The Brush Yard, located on Fremont (west of Brahma and east of Cordes Lakes Drive) will be open on the third Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Remember, this is NOT a trash dump, just burnable brush. This is IN Cordes Lakes for Cordes Lakes residents only, and you will be asked for your name and address, as a count of users is being kept.

If you are unable to make it on the available day and hours, contact Ron Giguere at 632-7552 to make an appointment to drop off your brush.

Lost and found: cell phone

Someone lost a cell phone at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. The battery is dead, so the phone number won't come up. Please call Robbe Bressler at 632-7232 and describe the brand and color if you think this is your phone.

Mayer Food Bank offers help

Mayer Food Bank is located at 10051 South 2nd Street in Mayer. It is open the last Saturday of the month from 8-11 a.m. Everyone in need is welcome. Springs Church sponsors the food bank. For information contact Art or Sharon Frame 713-5492.

Mayer Daze Parade & Festival

Save the date for the 48th Annual Mayer Daze celebration on May 8. The festival and parade will take place on Wicks St. in Mayer. Parade begins at 10 a.m.

Enjoy a pit BBQ at 11 a.m., crafts booths, carnival games, climbing wall, pit barbecue, craft booths, carnival games, car show, climbing wall and an 8 p.m. dance featuring "Miles of Country."

Meet Grandma at the Library

Join us for story time. All preschool and kindergarten aged children are welcome. Mom and Dad, too. Come to the library at 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays. Next story time is May 13.

Mayer Elders Club events and news

The Mayer Elder's Club will hold a picnic in the park behind the Senior Center on Saturday, April 24.  It starts at 11:30 a.m. and will have hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad and dessert for $5 for adults and $3 for children.  There will be a chicken drop - buy a tile and place under your chicken to see which one "drops" first.   Prizes will be awarded.

 Mayer's Emporium will be having a rummage sale on Saturday, May 1.  Come see all the items on sale and enjoy the Mayer Elder's Club bake sale also.  Shopping starts at 8 a.m. 

The Hospice of the Pines Loss Support Group meets at the Mayer Elder's Center each Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Come and enjoy lunch at 11:30 a.m. provided by Meals on Wheels. Please join us if you've lost someone either recently or years ago, or if you are a full time caregiver.   

Every Thursday afternoon, a beading class takes place at the Mayer Senior Center. Classes are taught by Myrna Bouchey and cost $3, which includes supplies. Beading is done from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and we enjoy lunch at the Center.

MAMOW will host the U. S. Census Bureau training at the following times: 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 16; 10 a.m. on Friday, April 23; and 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 22.

 Saturday, May 1, and Sunday, May 2, the Southwest Tractor Show will be held in the lot next to Albertson's in Prescott Valley.  The Big Bug Charity Quilters will have a booth. Please come support them. 

Saturday, May 8, MAMOW will be serving breakfast from 6:30-9 a.m. before the parade at the Mayer Elder's Center.  Come enjoy the band, The Sidekicks, and eat a hearty breakfast that will last until the Mayer Daze Barbeque at noon. 

Mayer Exercise classes provided by Yavapai County Health Services are Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Mayer Senior Center. For information, call Virginia at 442-5480. The Center is open from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Join the Mayer Area Meals on Wheels for lunch first and then attend the class.

The Mayer Area Meals on Wheels needs substitute drivers for the Cordes Lakes Area.

Mayer Library Used Book Sale

All used books at the Mayer Public Library will sell for 10 cents each during the month of April. Bargains galore! For more information call 632-7370.

Boots 'n Spurs Saddle Club events

Boots n' Spurs Saddle Club meets the third Thursday of the month, 6 p.m., at the Charcoal Pit Restaurant, Mayer.

The Club is open to all ages. Membership $7 individual, $15 family.

Boots n' Spurs Saddle Club will be hosting  a Horse Show, at the Big Bug Stables Grand Opening at the Creekside Preserve & Lodge on Highway 69, Mayer. The show will take place Saturday, May 15, with a 9 a.m. signup. Judging starts at 10 a.m. Entry fee $10, ribbons and belt buckles awarded. Cleator Waterline Fundraiser

Cleator residents will host a fundraiser on Saturday, April 24, from noon to 6 p.m. Activities will include live music (jam), food, hayrides, raffles (gold), and bake sale. Win a guided tour of an Arizona cattle ranch, see where the cows graze!  Proceeds benefit the Cleator waterline repairs and maintenance. Neighbor to Neighbor seeks volunteers

Neighbor to Neighbor is recruiting volunteers for a variety of opportunities to assist seniors and adults with disabilities who are no longer able to drive due to a medical or age related reason. If you are interested and live between Prescott Valley and Cordes Lakes please contact Neighbor to Neighbor.

Neighbor to Neighbor needs volunteers to assist with transportation to and from medical appointments from Prescott Valley to Cordes Junction.

Responsibilities include picking up our clients and taking them to their doctor's appointments, waiting through the visit and driving them back to their homes.

Astronomy Club 'space tour' May 3

The Prescott Astronomy Club (PAC) presents Adventures in Astronomy in a joint venture between the Dewey-Humboldt Public Library and the Dewey-Humboldt Activity Center on May 3 at 6 p.m.

PAC member John Carter will take you on a space tour through the Solar System and beyond, highlighting the wonders of the night sky. PAC members will bring their telescopes to be on hand after the talk at 8 p.m. for public viewing, weather permitting.

LVQG taking sign-ups for Quilt Workshop

The Lonesome Valley Quilt Guild (LVQG) will host nationally-known Linda Visnaw's Workshop on Tuesday, May 4, at Central Sewing, 8532 E. Hwy. 69, Prescott Valley.

The workshop is "Color Your World with Tsukineko (sue-key-neck-o) Inks" with the morning session learning to "Color Inside and Outside the Lines" and the afternoon session learning to "Thread Sketch."

The fee is $25 plus $10 kit fee (includes prepared-for-dying fabric, batting, color handouts, patterns for the day's project, etc.).



County offers free slash dropoff

The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors announces the continuation of a three-month free slash drop-off program at all county transfer stations beginning March 1 and continuing until June 1.

County transfer stations are located in Bagdad, Black Canyon City, Camp Verde, Congress, Mayer, Seligman and Skull Valley.

Free slash drop off will be during normal operating hours.

This free slash drop-off program will help residents in developing necessary defensible space around their homes and other structures that could fuel fires.

Keeping fuels down is absolutely necessary to help avoid uncontrolled fires that can and do become extremely damaging.

Prescott Farmers Market opens May 15

The Prescott Farmers Market (PFM) will begin its 14th season on Saturday, May 15, in the main parking lot at Yavapai College.

This year's market will include farm-fresh, locally grown produce, meat and dairy, honey, baked goods, tamales and bar-be-cue, agricultural crafts, body care products, gourmet foods, starter plants, advice from local growers, chef demonstrations and samples, live music, special events and much more.

The market will take place Saturday mornings through Oct. 30.

The PFM will also operate markets in Prescott Valley and Chino Valley. The Prescott Valley Farmers Market will run Tuesday afternoons June 1 though Sept. 28 in the Entertainment District. The Chino Valley Farmers Market will run Thursday afternoons June 3 through Sept. 30 in downtown Chino Valley.

The PFM is currently accepting local venders, artists, volunteers, musicians and chefs who would like to sell, perform or otherwise support any of the tri-city markets. People can apply at www.prescottfarmersmarket.org.
