New rigorous math standards put into place this past year resulted in a drastic decrease in AIMS test scores across the state, but not necessarily in the Mayer Unified School District where the percentage of students passing the math portion remained the same this year or within 1 or 2 percentage points.
The State Board of Education adopted new math standards in 2009 to better fit with international standards. The AIMS math test covered those standards and materials, some of which may not have been required or taught under the current Arizona math standards.
